According to a new report, childhood obesity in the US is on the rise. In fact, this report indicated that childhood obesity in children and adolescents has more than doubled in the past 30 years. While this report factors in the fatty foods that children consume as a source of this problem, there is another major factor, which is the technology that is available today.

Gamestraunants

The last few years has seen a boom of technological advancements in the entertainment sector, which has propelled a sharp rise in interest. Video gaming is just one example. The majority of youths in the , now days, have fallen into the heinous trap of addictive video games. We even have heard of many episodes where children skip classes to create time for playing videos games.
Sadly, video games do not incorporate whole body movements as part of playing a game, except for the hands and the fingers which are always put in busy mode. A recent survey shows that an average video game enthusiast could easily spend more than 5 hours at a one go of playing, without shifting sitting position, causing accumulation of bad fat in the body. Funny enough, too, some of these chronic video lovers never blink while playing! They are oblivious of the fact that not blinking makes eyes dry and sour, putting their vision at stake.

600 Television Channels

TV is also a big technological contributor to obesity in children. While it disguises itself as a necessity in life, TV has led to both poor eyesight and obesity in children. Thrilling line upcoming TV programs, a series of heart thumping music and charming characters on TV, all these contribute so much to keeping jack at statue position. Since the introduction of satellite TV, most people, especially children in America, manage to stare long hours behind a TV with the remote glued to their hands. While the endless list of 600 channels is so magnetic to the brains of these youngsters, parents on their part have failed to guide tem using parental control tools. As a result, many children shun house chore duties, stay overnight and even spend the most part of the day watching TV while sitting on the couch, of course with a mouth full of popcorn, inviting obesity into their lives.

Cell Phones

At their tender ages of 7 to 16, children and adolescents are always exploring like a Hobo. Then there comes a "miniature computer" loaded with all kinds of applications that will take you months before you discover that they even exist. Children then find themselves spending a whole day staring on the 4 inch screens. And luckily for them, the technology in cell phones today also allows them to listen to a playlist of a thousand and one MP 3 songs.
They usually do this while chatting with friends on the other side of the planet whom they have never met- problem of social sites. They might as well create a habit of sleeping very late at night or choose to sit in a comfortable zone all day typing weird staff on the search bars of their browsers. That is one way which these children have become obese. Instead of being jumpy and bright, many are becoming overweight and dull- the problem of Smart phones.

Conclusion

Despite the fact that these cases of obesity in children are rampant, there are many ways of stopping them. First, by introducing strict healthcare measures that can combat obesity. A nice example is this; buy a new bicycle for your child, turn off the X-BOX player and help them to choose to ride a real bicycle all day instead of sitting all day riding a moving image on the screen.
